A key mission of all NSC programming is to prepare refugees for self-sufficiency and independence. New for 2016 at Growing Together is an Entrepreneurial Garden designed to advance those aims.
Reed Street Farmer Training Program
In partnership with PHS, refugee farmers with agricultural experience are participating in a farmer-training program in 2016. During the pilot, crops and growing techniques will be vetted. Key to the initiative will be the planting of specialty crops that are in demand, and often difficult to source, within the city.
One part farmer training and one part business-development program, the ultimate objective is to create revenue streams for refugees experienced in farming and urban agriculture.
Stay tuned for program updates in the coming months.
